Tether Unveils MOS: Open-Source Bitcoin Mining Revolution

Tether releases MOS, an open-source operating system that will turn Bitcoin mining into a new perspective, introducing centralized control and scalability.

Tether released Mining OS (MOS) on open source on February 2, 2026, at the Plan 9 Forum in San Salvador. The platform operates Bitcoin mining in bulk.

MOS integrates hardware, energy, and infrastructure data. Tether claims that operators acquire end-to-end visibility of mines. The system treats each component as a worker that can be controlled.

Why Centralized Mining Software Faces Obsolescence

Numerous and complicated systems are involved in Bitcoin mining. Machines, power systems, and containers should be continuously coordinated. MOS eliminates fragmented stacks of software completely.

The platform monitors both hashrate and power consumption. One dashboard shows the health of devices and site-level infrastructure. Operators approach environments as entire systems.

Scalability Meets Decentralization in New Framework

MOS is implemented on lightweight hardware when small operations are needed. Hundreds of thousands of devices can be scaled to the same system. A P2P architecture provides resilience at an interdeployment level.

Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino insisted on accessibility. Ardoino declared that the mining OS, MOS, is constructed to open up the mining infrastructure of Bitcoin, make it modular, and available. Small operators and industrial sites both utilize the same infrastructure.

The company does not depend on third-party software. Competition on a par level is enhanced as new mining firms can tailor operations according to their wishes.

Developer Tools Reshape Mining Software Creation

MOS and Mining SDK were also announced by Tether. The architecture enables programmers to create mining programs in a short time. Pre-existing workers and easy APIs reduce unnecessary development.

The Mining SDK is published under open source communities. UI kit accelerates the production of a dashboard. Internal tools install quickly without rebuilding.

Network resilience was the final objective emphasized by Ardoino. The open source of the mining stack contributes to ecosystem growth. Accessible tools expand the infrastructure of Bitcoin to be distributed further.

MOS can be deployed at any time. The Mining SDK promotes teamwork in the form of open-source development. The two are now open to mining operators worldwide.
