Yesterday I saw that X was full of images in a Ghibli style—classic memes redrawn with that Miyazaki aesthetic... Super Genérico, Gracias Vance, everything looked different. At first, I thought it was just a design trend, but it turns out OpenAI has just launched GPT-4o with an integrated image generator that’s especially good at replicating Studio Ghibli anime. Sam Altman changed his avatar to a Ghibli image, and boom, the whole thing exploded on social media.

Of course, as always happens with things like this, someone launched a meme token called $GHIBLI taking advantage of the hype. It started yesterday afternoon, and this morning its value went through the roof... although looking at the data now, the thing has already dropped quite a bit. The price is in free fall after the initial peak. I guess that’s typical of meme coins—the Miyazaki meme lasted as long as it lasted.

What’s interesting is that Miyazaki never wanted this; years ago he said he found AI-generated animation “repugnant.” But well, here we are. If you want to generate your own Ghibli, just go into ChatGPT with GPT-4o, upload an image, and tell it to redraw it in Ghibli style. It works incredibly well. As for the token, the team’s information isn’t clear, and the risks are high after seeing how it dropped. Typical of this week’s Miyazaki meme coin rush.
