Judge halts Trump administration's ban on Anthropic, U.S. Department of Justice files an appeal
Deep Tide TechFlow news: On April 2, according to Jintou Data, the Trump administration will appeal the ruling by U.S. District Judge Rita F. Lin of the Northern District of California in San Francisco, which blocked its attempt to prevent the government from using Anthropic technology. On Thursday, the U.S. Department of Justice filed a notice in court stating that it will appeal the decision made last month by Judge Rita F. Lin, who had previously paused the government’s plan to sever its relationship with Anthropic to maintain the status quo while the legal dispute continued. However, she temporarily stayed her ruling for one week to give the government an opportunity to appeal. Anthropic filed a lawsuit challenging the Department of Defense’s decision, which claimed that its technology threatened the U.S. supply chain. In her March 26 ruling, the judge agreed with Anthropic, finding that the government’s justification for banning the technology on national security grounds was questionable. The judge indicated that this move appeared more like a punishment of Anthropic, as the company had requested assurances that its technology would not be used for monitoring Americans or for autonomous weapons deployment.
