Bitcoin Core adds its sixth core code maintainer, TheCharlatan, after three years

Deep Tide TechFlow News, January 12 — According to Protos, the Bitcoin Core development team added a trusted key holder with commit access to the main branch on January 8, 2026. The developer known by the pseudonym TheCharlatan (also known as “sedited”) became the sixth core maintainer.

This is the first time since May 2023 that the number of trusted key holders with code commit permissions has been expanded in Bitcoin Core. After joining, the existing core maintainers include Marco Falke, Gloria Zhao, Ryan Ofsky, Hennadii Stepanov, Ava Chow, and TheCharlatan.

TheCharlatan graduated from the University of Zurich with a degree in computer science. Originally from South Africa, he mainly focuses on reproducible builds and verification logic research for Bitcoin Core.
