Claude Code connects to iMessage: Control your computer's programming agent using iPhone messages

BlockBeatNews

According to 1M AI News monitoring, Anthropic Claude Code team member Thariq Shihipar announced that iMessage is now available as a communication channel for Claude Code. After installing the plugin on a Mac, users can send messages to the running Claude Code session via iMessage on an iPhone or any Apple device. Claude executes operations locally and replies through iMessage.

The iMessage channel directly reads the macOS Messages database and sends replies using AppleScript, without relying on any external services or bot tokens. By default, it only responds to the user’s own messages (self-chat mode), but users can add other contacts’ phone numbers or Apple IDs via commands. To install, run /plugin install imessage@claude-plugins-official in Claude Code, then start the session with claude --channels plugin:imessage@claude-plugins-official.

iMessage is the third official channel for Claude Code channels, following support for Telegram and Discord. Channels allow external platforms to push events to a local Claude Code session, which executes tasks within the user’s real file environment and responds through the same channel. It acts as a chat bridge from mobile to local development environment. This feature is currently in research preview, requiring Claude Code v2.1.80 or higher. Team and Enterprise users need to enable it manually through an administrator.
