According to TechCrunch, the decentralized biometric authentication project World, co-founded by Sam Altman, has released the latest version of its app, introducing several new features, including end-to-end encrypted chat integration and cryptocurrency sending and receiving similar to Venmo.
The new app is referred to by the development team as a super app, with the World Chat feature employing end-to-end encryption, offering security levels comparable to Signal, and using colored chat bubbles to indicate whether the conversation partner has been verified through the World system. This feature aims to incentivize users to perform identity verification, allowing users to confirm the real identity of their chat partners.
In digital payments, the new version of the app has expanded its cryptocurrency sending and receiving capabilities, enabling users to receive wages directly into virtual bank accounts and deposit from bank accounts, with these funds convertible into cryptocurrencies. Using these payment features does not require verification through the World identity system.
It is claimed that World verifies user identity by scanning their irises with its Orb device, having scanned nearly 20 million people so far, with a goal of reaching 1 billion scans.
