According to Canadian media reports, two sources familiar with the matter said that Trump raised the issue of the 51st state during the call and explained the advantages of Canada joining the U.S. Carney subsequently expressed his disagreement. At the end of the call, Carney said, “We agree to disagree on this issue.” However, the information Carney later revealed to the outside world was that, “(Trump) has respected Canada’s sovereignty in both private and public remarks today.”
