Theo Reuters, Engie đang xem xét triển khai hệ thống lưu trữ pin hoặc xây dựng trung tâm dữ liệu khai thác bitcoin tại nhà máy điện mặt trời Assu Sol ở khu vực đông bắc Brazil. Mục tiêu của kế hoạch này là giảm thiểu tác động tiêu cực của tình trạng cắt giảm công suất (power curtailment) đến lợi nhuận của dự án.
Từ năm 2023, các dự án điện mặt trời và điện gió tại Brazil ngày càng chịu áp lực cắt giảm công suất do hạn chế trong khả năng hấp thụ của lưới điện quốc gia. Bên cạnh đó, sự tăng trưởng nhanh chóng của công suất năng lượng tái tạo và sự mở rộng mạnh mẽ của điện mặt trời phân tán đã làm gia tăng tình trạng dư thừa nguồn cung trong một số thời điểm.
