🚨 Two families earning 20 lakh… but one pays ₹0 tax and the other pays ₹1.92 lakh!

@raghav_chadha raised the question in parliament — and the issue is truly striking.
Family A
Husband: ₹10 lakh
Wife: ₹10 lakh
Total Income: ₹20 lakh
➡️ Tax: ₹0
Family B
Husband: ₹20 lakh
Wife: ₹0 (managing the home / taking care of children)
Total Income: ₹20 lakh
➡️ Tax: ₹1.92 lakh
🤔 Same earnings… but different penalty?
One home
One kitchen
One family budget
But at tax time, the government says:
"Not family, only individuals will be counted."
This is why the demand for Joint ITR Filing (joint tax filing for husband and wife) was raised in parliament.
If this is implemented
Millions of single-income families could get significant tax relief.
The question is straightforward:
Why does the tax system penalize the hardworking homemaker wife by ₹1.92 lakh? 💥
