Beginner Entry

Xiao Chen's third day in the crypto world, and he caught a historic moment.

Three days ago, he heard about Bitcoin at a friend's dinner party. The friend said this thing could make money, and there's no limit to how high it can go. He was a bit drunk at the time, downloaded the exchange app on the spot, transferred 5,000 yuan, and bought $200 worth of Bitcoin. After buying, he forgot about it, tossed his phone aside, and continued drinking.

This morning on the subway, he remembered this, opened the app to take a look, and froze in place.

"Units, tens, hundreds, thousands, ten-thousands... 74,000?" He counted three times, sure he didn't see it wrong. $200 turned into 140 RMB? No, wait, he didn't buy in dollars, did he? His mind was a bit muddled, and he couldn't figure out exactly how much he had earned, but he understood the red "+5.97%"—it went up, he made a profit.

He excitedly took a screenshot and sent it to the group: "Brothers, am I about to hit big?"

The group was silent for three seconds, then exploded.

Someone replied: "Newbie protection period." Someone else said: "Sell quickly, it's about to pull back." Another said: "With this little money, you’re even embarrassed to post?" Someone else said: "Don’t listen to them, HODL!" Xiao Chen looked at these messy replies, more confused than ever. He originally thought someone in the group would tell him what to do next, but everyone was saying different things.

He looked again at the message from his friend. The friend sent him a message at 3 a.m. last night: "Bitcoin's at 74,056, are you still holding?" followed by a string of rocket emojis. He was asleep at the time and didn't reply. Now he wanted to reply but didn't know what to say.

He wanted to ask his friend whether he should sell now, but felt a bit embarrassed—when someone asks if he's in, his first reaction is to sell. Would that make him look weak?

After hesitating for a long time, he decided to scroll through the group messages. The person who often posts dog emojis in the group sent a new message this morning: "Buy against me and you'll make money." The picture shows a dog smiling foolishly at the screen, which is all green. Xiao Chen didn't understand what it meant, but he remembered that person's name.

He thought, maybe if he buys against this person, he can make money, right?

The subway reached his stop. He put his phone in his pocket and got off the train. The sunlight hit his face, he squinted, and suddenly felt that today’s sky was especially blue, the air especially fresh, and even going to work didn’t seem so annoying. $BTC

Whatever, it’s only 5,000 yuan. If I lose it, just treat it as buying a meal for my friends. If I make money—he hadn't decided how to spend it yet, but just thinking about it felt wonderful. #加密市場上漲
