The Tower of Jesus Christ at Sagrada Família has reached its climax
The Sagrada Família in Barcelona has reached a significant milestone in its development. The majestic masterpiece has completed the exterior of the Tower of Jesus Christ, which now rises to an impressive height of 172.5 meters above the ground in Catalonia. This event is not just an architectural achievement but a realization of the century-old vision of the brilliant architect Antoni Gaudí.
The Final Cross Crowns the Tower of Jesus
According to Ming Pao, the final element of the structure—a three-dimensional cross serving as a symbol of faith—has been installed at the top. This means that the Tower of Jesus Christ, the fourteenth out of the planned 18 towers of the cathedral, now has a fully completed outer shell. Of all the towers envisioned by Gaudí, only one was finished by the time of his death in 1926, which vividly illustrates the scale of work accomplished since then.
From Gaudí’s Dream to Reality
The architectural marvel designed by Antoni Gaudí over a century ago envisioned the construction of 18 towers of unprecedented beauty. The Tower of Jesus Christ holds a special place in this grand plan as a symbol of Christian faith and a central element of the composition. Its completion signifies that the cathedral is approaching its final form, even as internal work continues with increasing intensity.
Opening in the Year of Gaudí’s Centennial
A preliminary grand opening of the Sagrada Família is scheduled for June 10, a date chosen intentionally—it coincides with the centenary of the death of the great Catalan architect. This will be a symbolic end of an era, as the world celebrates Gaudí’s legacy and his immeasurable contribution to global architecture. The Tower of Jesus Christ and the entire cathedral will stand as a living monument to his genius and pursuit of perfection.
