Participants included research teams from the People’s Bank of China Financial Research Institute, Yuanbi Technology Chairman of the Board, members of the Web3.0 Development Task Force, former HKMA Chief Executive Chen Delin, and other experts. The meeting discussed how Hong Kong can leverage high-quality digital financial development to support the country’s goal of building a “Financial Powerhouse.” The focus was on three main areas: the application scenarios of digital finance, balancing regulation and innovative development, and connecting with mainland China’s digital financial infrastructure to achieve coordinated growth. Group leader of the Chief Executive Policy Group, Huang Yuanshan, stated that Hong Kong should seize the digital wave by promoting high-quality financial development to help realize the goal of a strong financial nation. Hong Kong has advantages in technological infrastructure, an active market, and a favorable policy environment. Digital financial applications should shift from financial innovation to serving the real economy, such as advancing asset tokenization to include precious metals, renewable energy, and other real-world assets, addressing issues like poor liquidity and cumbersome transactions in traditional assets.
