Kontigo CEO Jesus A. Castillo recently criticized a well-known tech media outlet for false reporting. The other party claimed that the company was shut down by a major bank due to compliance issues. Castillo firmly stated that this claim is completely unfounded and constitutes defamation.

He emphasized that Kontigo's core positioning is very clear — it is a technology company focused on self-custody and permissionless infrastructure, while also integrating local stablecoins and zero-knowledge proof technology. In other words, Kontigo itself is not a licensed financial institution; its fiat on-ramps rely entirely on licensed partners in different regions.

Where is the real problem? It lies with their virtual account partner in the US, Checkbook. This partner initially promised to provide account services for users worldwide. But what happened? They directly ceased cooperation without any prior notice, and their technical support capabilities could not keep up. In one sentence: they were scammed.

Being stabbed in the back by a partner is really disgusting.

Media rumors, Checkbook is the real scam. --- Another "partner" story, this kind of plot is all too familiar in Web3. --- Wait, are compliance issues really fake? Seems a bit suspicious. --- Checkbook's move to shift blame is too much, with no notice at all. --- Self-custody infrastructure sounds good, but if the fiat channel gets blocked, it's game over. That's the real problem. --- So is it the media spreading negativity, or Checkbook? Can't tell who is telling the truth. --- Blaming the partner entirely for being scammed? You should also reflect on your own risk control. --- ZK proofs, local stablecoins, no matter how advanced the technology, without a withdrawal channel it's all useless. --- This story is a classic example of a big company turning ruthless, while small companies are left speechless. --- Partner suddenly stops service, which is indeed disgusting. But why did you choose Checkbook in the first place?

It's media sensationalism again. Why do they love to criticize crypto projects so much?
