On December 30, according to CNBC, SoftBank has fully completed its $40 billion investment commitment in OpenAI. BlockBeats previously reported that on April 1, OpenAI completed a $40 billion financing round, led by SoftBank. This brought its post-money valuation to $300 billion (including new capital). Other investors include core investor Microsoft, as well as institutions like Coatue, Altimeter, and Thrive. OpenAI has stated that the new funds will be used to “further advance AI research” and expand computing infrastructure, with approximately $18 billion allocated to OpenAI’s commitment to the Stargate project. There is an additional condition for this round of financing: if OpenAI does not complete its restructuring into a profitable entity by December 31, 2025, the financing amount may be reduced by up to $10 billion.
