Renowned investor Michael Burry has made another big move recently. On November 3rd, this investor, known for his precise bearish outlook, quietly took short positions on two tech giants—NVIDIA and Palantir.

These two companies are no small players. NVIDIA, as the world's largest chip manufacturer, and Palantir, a hot enterprise in the AI field, together have a market value of around $5 trillion. Burry's move involved an initial investment of only about $10 million in put options, but if the bet pays off significantly, the position could grow in value to over $1 billion.

Since November 3rd, the performance of these two stocks has been quite volatile. For Burry's bet to truly materialize, it would require quite extreme movements: NVIDIA's stock price would need to drop from the current approximately $187 to around $110 in 2027 (a decline of about 40%), and Palantir would need to fall from $185 to $50. This is not a low-probability event, but it is certainly not easy to achieve.

Burry's approach is quite satirical—betting 10 million on 1 billion, essentially gambling on an "extreme trend"... Data shows that historically, the success rate of such extreme bets is about 18%, but the media always only remembers the one time he was right [cold laugh]. Interestingly, despite NVDA and PLTR being held by so many institutions, he is operating in the opposite direction. Not to criticize, but anyone who experienced the 2008 cycle knows that no matter how smart an individual is, they can't change the overall trend of the cycle. A 40% decline? Objectively, the chances of these two stocks are not high unless a systemic risk occurs. If Burry were really that accurate, he would have used futures long ago.
