Don't Be an "Emotional Leek" in a Bull Market: 3 Principles to Help Your Account Grow Steadily Without Panic

“Those who miss out are not because of lack of profit, but because human weaknesses cannot be patched up.” I set this as my signature in trading software — so every time I open the price chart, I remember that the biggest enemy is not the market, but my own emotions. After 8 years of trading, my phone wallpaper is not a landscape or a celebrity. It’s a blurry screenshot of my holdings. Under the buy order for ADA at $0.08, I wrote a short line: “Don’t panic anymore.” Back then, I panicked and sold at $0.2. Then, ADA increased 20 times. That sharp price spike still feels like a needle stabbing into my memory, reminding me of a very painful lesson: Small investors are always the first to be “shaken out” — not because of lack of money, but because of overly weak faith. Before I could recover, ETH taught me a second lesson. I built my position around $2000, then a large red candle appeared, and the price dropped to $2600. I hurriedly exited the position, comforting myself: “Safety is still better.” The next day, ETH shot straight up to $4500. Looking at the empty position page, I realized: In a bull market, the most ruthless “harvest” targets those who lose control of their emotions. After two falls, I didn’t look for a “secret trick,” but turned blood and tears into 3 instinctive principles, then let the system execute automatically. As a result, last year, I calmly went through three major fluctuations; my account curve changed from an “electrocardiogram” to a mountain climb. Below are those 3 principles.

  1. Patience for Signals: No Signal = No Trade I set a strict rule: if the price hasn’t stabilized above the 120-day moving average, consider the market noisy. No guessing, no “feelings,” no entering just because the price is moving. I even changed the alert sound of the software to say: “No signal yet.” It sounds annoying, but it helps me shift from “fear of missing out” to “fear of making wrong buys.” Just this change increased my win rate by about 30%. The clear lesson here: making money doesn’t come from trading often, but from trading at the right time.
  2. Manage Positions Like Armor: With Ammunition, No Panic I divide my capital into 6 parts, and never go all-in. 20% to open the initial position Price drops 15% → add 10% Drop another 10% → add 10% When the price recovers 25%, take 10% profit Always keep at least 10% cash reserve This principle has an extremely important effect: You no longer fear price drops because you are prepared for them. Panic only appears when you run out of “ammunition.” Knowing you still have resources, your mindset becomes much more stable — and your decisions more rational.
  3. Discipline Must Be System-Driven, Not Willpower Before each order, I clearly note 3 points and do not change them midway: Entry point Defense point (stop loss or capital protection) Target point After entering, the system handles everything automatically. I don’t “intervene emotionally,” don’t move stop-loss points out of fear, don’t take partial profits out of greed. Human willpower is very weak against price volatility. The system doesn’t know fear, nor greed. Conclusion: Bull Markets Are Not for Impatient People Bull markets look glamorous, but most profits do not go to the fastest traders, but to those who stand firm. If you: Always enter trades out of fear of missing out Panick when prices fluctuate Change plans midway Then your opponent is not the sharks or the market — but yourself. Let rules replace emotions, systems replace instincts, and let time do its job. Then, your account won’t need to “dance” — it only needs to grow steadily.
