Largest individual holder: Satoshi Nakamoto
Satoshi Nakamoto is the anonymous author of the 2008 Bitcoin white paper, believed to hold approximately 1.1 million BTC, worth over $120 billion at current prices. These bitcoins account for about 5% of the total supply of Bitcoin and were mined during the early days of Bitcoin’s inception between 2009 and 2010. Although there is much speculation about Nakamoto's true identity, it remains an unsolved mystery—possibly an individual or a group.
According to blockchain researchers, Nakamoto mined over 22,000 blocks before the first Bitcoin halving, with each block rewarded with 50 BTC. These bitcoins are dispersed across thousands of different wallet addresses and have never been transferred or spent, further deepening the mystique surrounding Bitcoin's creator.
This estimate of 1.1 million BTC is based on an analysis of early mining patterns, notably the “Patoshi pattern” (mining signature) identified by researcher Sergio Demian Lerner. While this figure is widely accepted, it remains a reasonable estimate rather than an established fact.
Satoshi Nakamoto’s most famous Bitcoin address is “1A1zP1eP5QGefi2DMPTfTL5SLmv7DivfNa,” also known as the Bitcoin Genesis Address. This address mined the very first Bitcoin block (the Genesis Block) in 2009 and still holds over 104 BTC today.
