Whatsminer M70: New Generation of Bitcoin ASIC Miner Series

Chinese company MicroBT launched its new generation of Bitcoin ASIC miners at the Bitcoin MENA 2025 event held in Abu Dhabi, UAE on December 8.

Overview of the Whatsminer M70 Series

The Whatsminer M70 series includes 15 miner models with different configurations, divided into six series: M70, M72, M73, M76, M78, and M79. The series has not yet been released for sale.

Main features of this series:

  • Includes 15 miner models with various power and efficiency ratings
  • Maximum energy efficiency reaches 12.5 J/TH (joules/terahash)

M79S: The Second Most Powerful ASIC Miner in the Industry

The M79S model exceeds the 1 PH/s (petahash per second) hashrate mark, making it currently the second most powerful Bitcoin ASIC miner, just behind a leading miner manufacturer’s model to be released in January (1.16 PH/s).

The lower-powered ASIC miners start at a hashrate of about 214 TH/s.

Energy Efficiency Ratings

The entire miner series is divided into three energy efficiency levels:

  • 12.5 J/TH (joules/terahash)
  • 13.5 J/TH
  • 14.5 J/TH

Each level offers both air-cooled and liquid-cooled versions.

Highest Efficiency Models: 12.5 J/TH Series

Three models in the series stand out for their lowest power consumption, all rated at 12.5 J/TH.

This value represents the energy consumed by the device to generate one terahash per second. The lower the value, the more economically the device can operate under the same power conditions.

Specific Model Specifications

Whatsminer M70S+: Offers hashrates ranging from 244 TH/s to 280 TH/s. This is an air-cooled miner suitable for standard configurations in data centers or rack installations.

Whatsminer M76S+: Achieves a hashrate range of 390 TH/s to 440 TH/s. Designed in a server format for rack mounting, it is suitable for environments where power density is a key factor.

Whatsminer M73S+: Provides a hashrate range of 540 TH/s to 600 TH/s. Due to its capacity, it targets large operations seeking to maximize the ratio of installed power to available space.

These figures represent major progress by MicroBT in energy efficiency, reducing the energy cost per unit of mining power.

Market Significance

Given the complex situation faced by Bitcoin miners today, mining profitability largely depends on electricity costs. Thanks to their high efficiency, these new miners offer a competitive alternative in the high-performance segment.
