Tether, the issuer of the world’s largest stablecoin (USDT), has brought forward plans to issue a special token for the US.
Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino stated in an interview with the Financial Times that the company is in discussions regarding stablecoin regulations in the US and that depending on the progress of these discussions, they could create a specialtoken for the US.
Ardoino stated, “If new regulations will make US stablecoins competitive, we may show interest in creating a local stablecoin as Tether”. He also mentioned that this stablecoin will be “essentially a means of payment”.
Ardoino stated that the U.S. President DonaldTrump administration views stablecoins as “an important tool for the U.S.” The agenda of President Trump’s administration includes regulations that would require foreign stablecoin issuers to comply with U.S.laws.
