US media: Trump plans to declare the Iran conflict a "victorious conclusion," and may hand over the Strait of Hormuz issue to NATO

BlockBeats News, April 2, according to US media outlet Politico citing multiple sources familiar with the matter, US President Trump plans to announce during a prime-time address nationwide that, for the military operation against Iran, “all targets have been achieved,” and that the war is nearing its end.

The report says Trump will declare victory in his speech and lay the groundwork for the United States to gradually withdraw from the conflict. At the same time, he intends to blame the currently most pressing issue—shipping disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz—on NATO member countries, calling on Europe and Gulf states to take responsibility for subsequent security.

Trump’s former chief strategist Steve Bannon said Trump will emphasize that “short-term military objectives have been achieved,” and may push for a ceasefire in the coming weeks, while making clear that the strait problem “will no longer be led by the United States to solve.”

The report notes that Iran is still restricting shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, driving international oil prices to rise above $100 per barrel. Against this backdrop, the Trump administration is seeking a “respectable exit” path to ease domestic polling pressure and concerns in the energy markets.

Meanwhile, Trump has recently continued to pressure NATO and threatened to reassess the US role in NATO, even leaving open the possibility of withdrawing from the military alliance. White House officials say Trump is “extremely dissatisfied” that some European countries have refused to provide bases and airspace support for US forces.

Although more than 20 countries have already said they are willing to participate in post-war efforts to secure the strait, many European countries are taking a cautious stance on being directly drawn into the conflict. Analysts believe that Trump’s move is both an effort to pressure allies and a bid to define a “wrap-up narrative” for this Middle East conflict on both the military and political fronts.
