Pakistan today held a two-day foreign ministers’ meeting in the capital Islamabad with Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Egypt to discuss the situation in the Middle East. Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari met with visiting Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry before the meeting to exchange views on the tense situation in the Middle East.

A statement from Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that both sides emphasized the need for restraint, de-escalation of the situation, and resolving disputes through dialogue and diplomacy.

Shoukry arrived in Islamabad yesterday and stated that the four countries are seeking to promote direct dialogue between the United States and Iran.

Additionally, Zardari also spoke on the phone with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian. Zardari stated that it is crucial for all parties involved in the conflict to cease all attacks and hostile actions, and Pakistan will continue to work towards restoring regional peace and stability. Zardari also posted on social media that Iran has allowed 20 Pakistani vessels to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, with 2 vessels allowed each day.
