Two large aluminum plants in Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates, both located within the Gulf states, have recently each confirmed that they were attacked by Iran. The attacks resulted in injuries to personnel and damage to property. Aluminum products exported from the Middle East account for about 10% of global supply, which may cause some impact on the market. On March 29, Bahrain Aluminum Company said that its plants were hit by Iran on the 28th, with two people sustaining minor injuries, and that the company is assessing property damage. The company and its parent company previously declared that they had entered a state of “force majeure” due to disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, and reduced production by about 20%. Also on the 28th, one of the world’s largest aluminum producers, the UAE’s Global Aluminum Company, likewise confirmed an attack by Iran. A factory located in the Abu Dhabi industrial area suffered major losses, and several workers of Indian and Pakistani nationality were injured. (Xinhua)
