Latest from the Middle East! Iran writes to the United Nations, and the Pentagon considers deploying an additional 10,000 ground troops.

Iran Sends Letter to the UN Protesting the Targeting of Iran’s Speaker of Parliament and Foreign Minister for Assassination
According to news from Iran on the 27th, Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Iraj Elhami, has sent a letter to the UN protesting that the Iranian Speaker of Parliament and Foreign Minister have been listed as assassination targets, stating that reports indicating the temporary removal of the two from the US and Israeli elimination lists confirm that the threat of assassination indeed exists. “This threat stems from a criminal mentality, as they publicly refer to the ‘rules of engagement’ as ‘foolish,’ which is deeply concerning.”
In the letter, Elhami expressed the hope that members of the UN Security Council “immediately pay attention to the media reports.” These reports indicate that there is indeed a framework for the assassination of senior Iranian officials, which has been systematically implemented since the onset of this conflict.
Elhami stated, “Such (assassination) policies severely violate international law. The so-called ‘suspension’ conditions further confirm that this threat remains real, deliberate, and ongoing. This threat stems from a criminal mentality, as they publicly refer to the ‘rules of engagement’ as ‘foolish,’ which is deeply concerning.”
The Wall Street Journal reported on the 25th, citing US officials, that Iranian Speaker of Parliament Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian have been temporarily removed from the US-Israeli elimination list for a period of 4 to 5 days to facilitate US-Iran negotiations.
Reuters later reported that Israel plans to assassinate Qalibaf and Amir-Abdollahian and has tracked their movements. After Pakistan learned of this information, it informed the US that if the two are assassinated, Iran would have no one to negotiate with the US. Consequently, the US requested that Israel temporarily remove the two from its assassination list.
US Officials Say Pentagon Is Considering Deploying 10,000 Ground Troops to the Middle East
On March 26 local time, according to US Department of Defense officials, the Pentagon is considering deploying up to 10,000 ground troops to the Middle East to provide more military options while US President Trump weighs peace negotiations with Iran.
It is reported that this force will likely include infantry and armored vehicles, joining approximately 5,000 Marines already ordered to the region and several thousand paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne Division. It is currently unclear where these troops will be deployed in the Middle East, but reports suggest they will likely operate near Iran and on Iran’s Khark Island.
Previously, US President Trump stated on his social media platform “Truth Social” that at the request of the Iranian government, he would suspend attacks on Iranian energy facilities for 10 days. He claimed that current negotiations are “progressing smoothly” and denied media reports of difficulties in the talks.
