On March 29, The Washington Post reported that the Trump administration has been wavering between declaring the end of war and threatening to escalate it. The White House press secretary previously warned that if Iran does not abandon its nuclear ambitions and cease threats against the U.S. and its allies, Trump is “prepared to launch devastating strikes” against it. According to U.S. officials, discussions within the Trump administration over the past month included the possibility of seizing Hark Island, a key Iranian oil export hub in the Persian Gulf, as well as conducting raids in other coastal areas near the Strait of Hormuz to search for and destroy weapons that could be used to attack commercial ships and naval vessels. According to PolyBeats monitoring, the probability that Hark Island will no longer be under Iranian control by the end of the month is 3%, and the probability by the end of April is 30%.
