On the occasion of International Consumer Rights Day “3.15” and during the National Myopia Prevention and Control Publicity and Education Month, the General Administration of Market Regulation has organized a series of activities nationwide focused on “Myopia Prevention and Control, Measurement in Action.” These include measurement supervision, science popularization, and convenient services. Simultaneously, consumer tips for optometry and eyewear measurement, as well as compliance reminders for operators, have been released to promote standardized development of the optometry and eyewear industry and strengthen measurement safeguards for youth vision health.

Accurate measurement is key to proper eye exams. Market regulation departments at all levels continue to strengthen supervision of measurement tools in eyewear manufacturing and fitting venues, ensuring that mandatory calibration instruments such as optometers, diopters, and lens boxes are accurate and inspected according to law. In Jiangsu, nearly 2,500 eyewear venues have been inspected over the past three years, with about 1,500 practitioners trained; Shandong focused on over 900 eyewear stores near schools; Guangdong has established multiple local standards, encouraging over 3,800 eyewear stores to make honest measurement commitments. Through strict law enforcement and routine supervision, safety in eyewear fitting is protected from the source.

Meanwhile, science popularization and convenient services are being carried out across regions. Shanxi hosted a professional skills competition for optometry and eyewear fitting, while Hebei, Jiangxi, Yunnan, and other areas have gone into communities and schools to provide vision screening, free eyewear testing, and adjustments, effectively raising public awareness of measurement and ensuring that measurement results benefit people’s livelihoods.

The newly released consumer tips for optometry and eyewear measurement, along with compliance reminders for operators, aim to regulate the market through dual efforts. Consumer tips guide customers to check business licenses, verify the qualification marks on measurement instruments, review eyewear parameters, and keep purchase receipts. If any violations in measurement tools are found, consumers can report them by calling 12315. Compliance reminders clarify responsibilities related to subject accountability, personnel allocation, and measurement instrument management, urging operators to ensure the accuracy and reliability of eyewear measurement data.
