OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Health — a dedicated section for health-related consultations.
The solution was developed with the participation of “hundreds of doctors” in response to high audience interest: according to the company, over 230 million people ask the chatbot about their well-being weekly.
The new feature operates in an isolated environment. Conversations in ChatGPT Health are separated from main dialogues, protected by special encryption, and do not mix with the main model’s memory. This ensures that medical data does not influence the context of regular conversations.
Source: OpenAI Communication takes place in a familiar chat, but the model considers connected information. Users can ask questions like “How is my cholesterol changing?” or “Briefly summarize my latest tests,” upload files and photos, and use voice mode.
In this section, users can also set custom instructions — for example, prioritize certain questions or exclude unwanted topics.
ChatGPT does not diagnose or prescribe treatment. The neural network’s task is to help users interpret information, analyze metrics from apps like Apple Health or MyFitnessPal, and prepare for a visit to the doctor.
To access the most sensitive data — electronic medical records — OpenAI partnered with the b.well platform, which complies with industry standards like HIPAA. All connections are made only with user consent, which can be revoked at any time.
The development of ChatGPT Health was carried out in collaboration with the medical community. Over 260 doctors from 60 countries participated in its creation and evaluation over two years.
To ensure quality, OpenAI created the HealthBench system. It evaluates AI responses not based on abstract accuracy but on clinical criteria: safety, clarity, the appropriateness of recommendations to consult a specialist, and consideration of context.
In the coming weeks, access to the section will be opened to all users of the web version and iOS. At the time of writing, the service is in testing mode for a limited group in the USA.
Recall that at the end of December, OpenAI added the ability to personalize ChatGPT and launched an app store within the chatbot.
