Strategy to buy an additional 584 million USD Bitcoin, increasing the total number of Bitcoin held to over 500,000
Currently, Strategy holds 506,137 BTC, equivalent to over 44 billion USD. According to co-founder Michael Saylor, this total amount of Bitcoin was purchased at an average price of 66,608 USD/BTC, with a total cost of approximately 33.7 billion USD, including other expenses. To put it into perspective, the amount of Bitcoin that Strategy holds accounts for about 2.4% of the total supply of 21 million BTC.
The latest Bitcoin purchase occurred right after Strategy announced the offering of Series A preferred stock (STRF) with a yield of 10% last Friday. The company has increased the size of this issuance from $500 million to $722.5 million.
Previously, on March 10, Strategy revealed a plan to raise up to 21 billion USD through perpetual preferred shares STRK. Last week, the company sold 13,100 STRK shares for a total value of approximately 1.1 million USD. As of March 23, there are still about 20.99 billion USD worth of STRK shares that can be issued and sold.
In addition, the STRF and STRK programs are part of Strategy's large-scale fundraising plan, called the "21/21 plan", with the goal of raising a total of 42 billion USD through stocks and bonds to purchase more Bitcoin. Last week, the company also sold 1,975,000 MSTR shares, raising approximately 592.6 million USD. As of March 23, there are still 3.57 billion USD worth of MSTR shares that can be issued and sold under this program.
Currently, the market capitalization of Strategy stands at $79.2 billion, significantly higher than the net asset value (NAV) of the amount of Bitcoin the company holds. This has raised concerns among some investors regarding the high valuation relative to NAV, as well as Strategy's ongoing plans to expand its Bitcoin portfolio.
A-class shares of Strategy (MSTR) closed the trading session on Friday with an increase of 0.6%, reaching $304. In the pre-market trading session on Monday, MSTR continued to rise by 4.9%. Over the past year, this stock has increased by more than 90%, but has only risen by 1.3% since the beginning of 2025.
Jeff Park, head of Alpha strategy at Bitwise, described MSTR as the "altcoin of traditional finance (tradfi)," reflecting strong price volatility and special interest from investors.
