German Chancellor hot favorite seeks to form a black-red alliance

On February 25th, Jinshi Data reported that on February 24th, the largest party in the new Federal Parliament of Germany, the Union Party, announced its candidate for chancellor, Merz, plans to hold talks with the Social Democratic Party, the third largest party in the new Federal Parliament and the current Prime Minister Schultz’s party, and prepare for negotiations to form a ‘Black-Red Alliance’ and establish a coalition government. (Note: The Union Party is represented by black, and the Social Democratic Party is represented by red.) In response, the co-chair of the Social Democratic Party, Klinbert, stated that it is currently uncertain whether the Social Democratic Party will join the new government. Merz also stated that in the coming days, he will hold talks with Schultz to prepare for a ‘reasonable transition period,’ which is expected to last for several weeks. Schultz previously stated that he will not resign early and is willing to continue as chancellor until his successor takes office, hoping to ‘fulfill his duties until the last day.’ He also mentioned that in the future, he hopes to continue serving as a federal parliamentarian and will not seek other positions.
