Solana Aims to Pioneer On-Chain IPOs, Unveiling a Vision of "Everything Tokenized"
The world of traditional finance may be headed for a revolutionary merger with blockchain technology, as articulated by Lily Liu, President of the Solana Foundation. In a recent keynote at the Shanghai Blockchain International Week, Liu shared a bold vision for the future, stating her belief that “everything can be tokenized,” with Solana positioned to become the core infrastructure for this new digital financial internet. Her comments strongly suggest that even complex financial instruments like Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) may soon find a native home on high-throughput blockchains like Solana.
Tokenizing $500 Trillion in Traditional Assets
Liu’s perspective centers on two pillars of blockchain: assets and financial infrastructure. While current blockchain-native assets represent a multi-trillion-dollar market, this pales in comparison to the estimated $500 trillion value of traditional financial assets globally. Solana aims to bridge this massive gap.
By facilitating the tokenization of all asset classes—from traditional stocks, bonds, and real estate to entirely new digital assets—Solana seeks to make them instantly tradable, usable, and collateralizable on-chain. This paradigm shift would replace cumbersome, slow, and expensive legacy systems with the speed and efficiency of a decentralized network. The capability for native, on-chain IPOs would democratize access to corporate fundraising and public markets, lowering barriers for both issuers and investors.
Solana’s Technical Edge for Financial Giants
To realize this ambitious vision of becoming the “technology platform for Internet finance,” Solana relies on its unique, high-performance architecture. Liu highlighted that the network’s current throughput exceeds 1,000 transactions per second (TPS), with transaction fees as low as $0.0005.
These metrics place Solana’s efficiency close to that of traditional financial networks like Visa and NASDAQ, making it a viable and scalable foundation for institutional adoption. Solana’s focus on speed, low cost, and a single, unified network state is critical for handling the high volume and speed required by market mechanisms like stock market trading and native tokenized IPOs, further solidifying its growing influence in the global digital asset landscape.
