The judge hearing the Cook case once blocked Trump from carrying out mass deportations of immigrants.
According to Jin10 data on August 29, Politico reported that Judge Jia Cobb, who will rule on Trump’s attempt to fire Federal Reserve Board of Governors member Cook, previously struck down another significant measure by Trump to expand presidential power: mass deportations of immigrants. Cobb was nominated to the federal court by former President Biden in 2021. Earlier this month, Cobb blocked the Trump administration’s plan to quickly deport hundreds of thousands of immigrants fleeing violence or persecution in a lengthy 84-page ruling. Cobb will preside over the first phase of the Cook lawsuit, with a hearing scheduled for 10 a.m. Eastern Time on Friday. However, it is almost certain that she will not be the final decision-maker, as any ruling could be appealed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia and ultimately to the Supreme Court.
