Alpenglow proposes to enter the voting phase, Solana aims to shorten the completion time to 150 milliseconds.

The latest upgrade proposal from Solana named Alpenglow has entered the community voting phase. This is a major overhaul of the consensus mechanism, replacing Proof-of-History and TowerBFT with a new architecture consisting of two protocols: Votor and Rotor.

Votor allows for direct voting, shortening the block completion time from 12.8 seconds to only 150 milliseconds, enabling transactions to be confirmed faster. Rotor optimizes data transmission by reducing the number of hops in the network, saving bandwidth and increasing performance for DeFi applications, games, and high processing.

While Votor is expected to be implemented from the start, Rotor will be applied at a later stage. Alpenglow has also proposed a "20+20" model to maintain operations even when 20% of validators behave poorly and an additional 20% do not respond. Currently, 10.09% of validators support the proposal, while 9.97% oppose it.
