Trump's announcement of a ceasefire between India and Pakistan has sparked dissatisfaction in India, and the risk of future conflicts remains.
BlockBeats news, on May 12, U.S. President Trump announced over the weekend that India and Pakistan had reached a “comprehensive and immediate ceasefire protocol.” However, many senior officials in the Indian capital, New Delhi, are extremely angry about this. According to sources, the post released by Trump caught key Indian officials off guard. What truly infuriated them was not just the U.S. efforts to ease the situation, but Trump’s actions overshadowed Indian Prime Minister Modi, undermining India’s long-standing policy of resolving the Kashmir territorial dispute through bilateral negotiations. Worst of all, Trump placed the two rivals on equal footing, a move that New Delhi officials have long resisted, as India’s economic development has surpassed that of Pakistan. Although the financial markets may cheer for any ceasefire protocol, it remains uncertain whether the ceasefire will hold: just hours after Trump announced the ceasefire, both sides reported drone attacks along the Line of Actual Control in Kashmir, although the ceasefire appeared to be holding on Sunday. India also refused to restore a decades-old water resource treaty that is crucial to Pakistan’s economy. Moreover, the manner of the ceasefire itself may lay the groundwork for more intense battles in the future. (Jin10)
