On December 20, Jinshi Data reported that Dennis Darby, CEO of the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters Association (CME), warned that if US President Trump imposes tariffs on Canada, Canada’s exports worth nearly CAD 600 billion will be at risk. The association’s survey of more than 300 manufacturers found that companies are taking proactive measures, including 30% of companies accelerating shipments to the United States, 30% of companies delaying investment, and 22% of companies stopping recruitment. The survey found that if tariffs are implemented, 48% of manufacturers will consider stopping recruitment or layoffs, 46% of manufacturers will consider delaying or canceling planned investments, and 49% of manufacturers will consider transferring some production to the United States.
