Intel acknowledges that the 15th generation Ultra 200S CPU performance is significantly inferior to AMD, and will address the 'software issue' and fix the CPU bug in December.
Intel recently launched the new 15th generation CPU 'Ultra 200S', but it unexpectedly received criticism due to poor performance. Robert Hallock, Intel's Technical Marketing Director, recently admitted that its performance was not as expected and will release a patch at the end of this month or early December. (Background: Intel replaced by Nvidia, becoming a component stock of Dow Jones; Intel Q3 incurs the largest loss in history) Once the world's most valuable semiconductor company, Intel's stock plummeted due to poor financial reports, massive layoffs, and collective user lawsuits, and it was recently kicked out of the Dow component stocks. To reverse the decline, Intel has recently formed an alliance with Samsung and AMD and launched the new 15th generation CPU 'Ultra 200S' in October. However, after the Ultra 200S was released, it was heavily criticized for its poor performance. Geekerwan, a technology channel, released the test results of Ultra 200S this week, testing the CPU models U5 245K, U7 265K, and U9 285K (U9 285K with the highest performance), directly pointing out the disappointing gaming performance. Even Intel's 14th generation i9 14900K outperformed U5 245K, U7 265K, and U9 285K, criticizing Intel for 'simply reversing'. Intel admits that the performance is not as expected and plans to release an update at the end of this month. In response, Robert Hallock, Intel's Technical Marketing Director, recently accepted an interview with the foreign media HotHardware, admitting that the initial Benchmark test results of Core Ultra 200S did not meet expectations, indicating that the performance decline was due to multiple issues at the BIOS and OS levels. Although he was unwilling to go into details, he seemed to imply that there were optimization issues with the processor: 'I cannot explain in detail, but we have identified a series of multiple factors at the OS and BIOS levels. I must say that the performance we saw in the test is not what we expected and wanted.' Robert Hallock mentioned the issue of memory latency, stating that although some testers observed that memory latency was quite high in certain situations, this is not the root cause of poor gaming performance. He promised that Intel will provide detailed analysis and explanations to explain what exactly affects the gaming performance of the processor. Solving the problem remains challenging to compete with 9800X3D. Intel is trying to solve the problem to achieve slightly better gaming performance. As a processor for productivity and gaming, reaching the performance level of Core i9 14900K is the minimum goal. However, even if the gaming performance reaches the level of 14900K, the best U9 285K, priced at $629, still faces tough competition from the completely market-disrupting Ryzen 7 9800X3D.
