Ethereum's New Vision: More Focused and Pragmatic
In recent years, Ethereum has been in a period of transformation. As criticism has increased, the foundation's leadership has made adjustments, hoping to regain trust by improving transparency and participation, as well as focusing more on capturing value at the underlying level.
This change has already been reflected at the recent Ethereum conference. Tomasz K. Stańczak, co-executive director of the Ethereum Foundation, actively participated in several panel discussions, indicating a new direction for future development.
So, what is the future vision of Ethereum? How can we ensure that this vision is well executed?
Main Objectives
The main goals of Ethereum include:
Return to the essence of cryptocurrency, emphasizing privacy protection and decentralization. It is not only important to attract new users but also to ensure they can understand and practice these core values.
Maintain the position as the most secure and resilient blockchain infrastructure. This involves how to further enhance security, how to effectively communicate security advantages to users, and how to ensure that institutions and users can fully leverage this advantage.
Ensure that all technological developments adhere to the core spirit and values of Ethereum, without taking shortcuts or making compromises.
To achieve these goals, the Ethereum Foundation plans to adopt a more proactive strategy, including the development of new funding policies for exploring efficient and sustainable DeFi protocols and making strategic allocations of funds.
In addition, Ethereum faces a series of long-term challenges, including regulatory clarity, artificial intelligence applications, privacy issues, and more. Among them, increasing institutional adoption is a key aspect and a recent major trend.
Future Vision
The future vision of Ethereum is to treat various fields and industries as modular components, making them open-source and removing intermediaries. These modules will ensure a smooth transition from Web2 to Web3, eliminating friction between institutions.
For example, health agencies in different countries can open and contribute to health data repositories, ensuring the security and verifiability of these solutions through interactions on the Ethereum blockchain.
The ultimate goal is to allow users to trade all global assets on the chain.
Challenges Faced
To achieve this vision, Ethereum needs to address some of the major challenges and confusions faced by users. In the future, the focus will be on solving issues related to on-chain privacy and identity verification, and tackling the challenges posed by AI by building Ethereum as a trusted layer for AI execution.
The keywords are: trustworthiness and neutrality, globalization, design for privacy and security. This will create a diverse environment, establishing a social structure that promotes collaboration among different participants, making Ethereum a resilient network.
To truly resist centralization, it is essential to ensure participation on a global scale, incorporating diverse voices and methods to build a genuinely global network.
In addition, the Ethereum Foundation has made it clear that there is no opposition between L1 and L2. Instead, Ethereum will take a more proactive approach in guiding how to ensure these L2s reach the second phase, protecting users through Ethereum as the underlying foundational layer.
With the emergence of real-time blockchain ( such as MegaETH ) and other fast networks ( like Monad and Hyperliquid ), interoperability and integration issues have also arisen. New tools need to be introduced to identify these new challenges and ensure that clients can integrate with these networks.
Technical Development
All Ethereum client teams agree to raise the Gas limit for each block to 45 million or even 60 million, with the goal of reaching 100 million Gas by the end of this year or the first quarter of next year.
Internal restructuring will help achieve this goal, and the modular team will work towards achieving common objectives:
It is worth noting that the previously overlooked area of the expanded L1(, ), has also become one of these targets.
Overall, Ethereum's new vision is more focused and pragmatic, showcasing a positive development outlook.
