Truther launches the first non-custodial USDT Visa card in El Salvador

The cryptocurrency payment company Truther will launch a non-custodial USDT Visa card in El Salvador on January 29, 2025, marking a significant advance in bringing stablecoins into real-time everyday spending. Users can pay directly with USDT from a self-custody wallet without needing to deposit funds in advance, but can still use it at any Visa acceptance point.

In the initial phase, the system operates on the Polygon network, without any intermediaries holding users' assets. In the long-term roadmap, Truther plans to transition to the Liquid Network to optimize processing speed and on-chain payment capabilities. Each transaction incurs a 2% conversion fee, while users in Brazil are exempt from the IOF tax. After El Salvador, the service will expand to Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, and Russia.

Currently, Truther processes around 40 million USD stablecoin daily through integrations such as Brazil's instant payment system PIX. The partnership with Visa helps connect stablecoin liquidity with real-world spending, while continuing to reinforce El Salvador's role as a “laboratory” for real-world crypto financial products.
