Thailand requests the World (WLD) project to delete 1.2 million iris data and cease operations.
According to DLNews, the Personal Data Protection Committee of Thailand (PDPC) has issued a strong order against World, the digital identification project co-founded by Sam Altman, previously known as Worldcoin. PDPC requires the project to permanently delete over 1.2 million iris scan records collected in Thailand and immediately suspend all domestic activities.
This decision was made after a panel of experts conducted a comprehensive assessment and concluded that the project of awarding cryptocurrency in exchange for users' biometric data violated Thailand's Personal Data Protection Act. The regulator emphasized that sensitive biometric data requires stricter protective measures and should not be collected without full compliance with the law. Therefore, World must cease processing data, delete all iris scan records, and suspend interactions with Thai users until it complies with this country's data protection standards.
