BlackRock Adds $750M in Bitcoin, Boosts Total Holdings Above $86B
BlackRock has expanded its Bitcoin portfolio to over $86.2 billion following another $750 million direct BTC acquisition.
The firm made two large BTC purchases totaling $1.16 billion within 24 hours, intensifying its institutional accumulation strategy.
BlackRock's ETF also led U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF flows, securing $764 million in net inflows over the last day alone.
BlackRock has continued its large-scale Bitcoin accumulation by purchasing an additional $750 million worth of the cryptocurrency. The move comes just one day after the firm acquired $416 million in Bitcoin. The latest purchase brings its total Bitcoin holdings to over $86.2 billion as of July 17.
The investment firm has consistently expanded its Bitcoin exposure without making any sales in recent months. Its sustained accumulation reflects an assertive long-term strategy amid rising market momentum. Other institutional players have also adopted similar accumulation approaches, pointing to growing confidence in Bitcoin’s future potential.
ETF Activity Adds to Market Momentum
Besides its direct purchases, BlackRock’s spot Bitcoin ETF, known as IBIT, has led recent inflows among U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs. Over the past 24 hours, IBIT recorded $764 million in net inflows. This figure represents more than 90% of all BTC ETF flows during the same period, according to Arkham Intelligence.
BlackRock’s latest purchase is separate from its ETF activity. While inflows into the IBIT ETF reflect investor interest in regulated exposure to Bitcoin, the recent $750 million acquisition was a direct purchase by BlackRock itself. This dual strategy highlights the firm’s commitment to both direct asset accumulation and investment product development.
Rising Demand Among Institutions
The increasing inflow into BlackRock’s ETF and the company’s direct acquisitions suggest broader acceptance of Bitcoin among large institutions. Market analysts view this trend as a significant factor contributing to the ongoing rally in Bitcoin prices. Institutions appear to be positioning themselves for long-term exposure to the digital asset.
BlackRock’s aggressive accumulation strategy and leadership in ETF inflows demonstrate its expanding role in the Bitcoin ecosystem. As demand continues to grow, its activity reinforces Bitcoin’s position as a key institutional asset class.
