Pope Francis delivered a strong message on Palm Sunday, pointing out that the hands of leaders who wage war are stained with blood, and that Jesus is the King of Peace, emphasizing that war cannot be justified in Jesus’ name. The Pope lamented that Christians in the Middle East are suffering the consequences of a brutal conflict and may not be able to celebrate Easter.

Some U.S. officials have used Christian language to justify military action against Iran, including U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, who recently noted during a prayer ceremony at the Pentagon that overwhelming violence should be taken against those who are not worthy of pity.

On the 15th of this month, the Pope said during a prayer in St. Peter’s Square at the Vatican that for the past two weeks, the people of the Middle East have been suffering from the brutal violence of war, which has resulted in thousands of non-combatant deaths and brought suffering to the entire region, calling for an immediate ceasefire from all parties.
