Abstract generation in progress

Monica Bickert, who has long served as the head of content policy at Meta, is set to leave for a position at Harvard Law School. She was responsible for the formulation and execution of Facebook’s content policies and was involved in decision-making regarding user safety at the company.

An internal announcement shows that Bickert stated she has always intended to pursue a teaching career. She will work at Meta until August of this year and will work with Kevin Martin, who oversees the global policy team, to facilitate the transition.

As the head of content policy, Bickert often acted as the company’s spokesperson in response to controversies surrounding Meta’s handling of political content and issues related to adolescent mental health. She previously served as a federal prosecutor and joined Facebook in 2012, when the company was later renamed Meta.

After former Meta employee Frances Haugen disclosed internal documents in 2021, Bickert wrote: “Indeed, we are a profit-driven company, but to think we do so at the expense of user safety and well-being is to misunderstand our own business interests.”

Joel Kaplan, Meta’s Chief Global Affairs Officer, praised Bickert’s work during her time with the company in a statement.
