The Turkish maritime authority stated that a Turkish oil tanker loaded with crude oil reported a suspected underwater attack in the Black Sea early Thursday morning, but no oil leak occurred.

The Turkish Directorate General of Maritime Affairs indicated that the M/T Altura tanker suffered engine damage after an explosion, which also severely shook the bridge, causing equipment failure. The agency added that there were no casualties in the incident, and the vessel showed no obvious external damage.

Authorities reported that the oil tanker is stranded 26 nautical miles from the entrance to the Bosphorus Strait.

Vessel tracking data shows that this Suezmax tanker is laden with approximately 1 million barrels of Urals crude oil from Novorossiysk. The ship is subject to sanctions from the UK and EU, but not from the US.

Previously, NTV television reported that a drone attacked the vessel but did not specify the source of the information.
