Recently, heavy rainfall in Ethiopia has triggered mudslides and landslides, resulting in significant casualties and property damage. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated at a regular press conference on the 17th that China is willing to provide assistance within its capabilities for the disaster-affected people and post-disaster reconstruction, based on Ethiopia’s needs. Reports indicate that heavy rainfall in southern Ethiopia has caused mudslides and landslides, leading to at least 100 fatalities, approximately 60 missing persons, and nearly 3,500 people displaced. The Ethiopian government has declared March 14 to 16 as days of mourning, with flags at half-mast nationwide. “China expresses deep condolences to the victims and sincere sympathies to the families of the deceased. We believe that under the leadership of the Ethiopian government, the disaster-affected people will surely overcome the disaster and rebuild their homes,” Lin Jian stated, adding that China is willing to provide assistance for the disaster-affected people and post-disaster reconstruction based on Ethiopia’s needs.
