The high-skilled talent cluster development program in the field of new non-ferrous metal materials has been launched in Kunming.
On March 26, the launch meeting for the high-skilled talent cluster training program in the non-ferrous metal new materials sector was held in Kunming, aimed at systematically addressing the core shortcoming of the industry’s significant “gap in skilled talent and mismatch in supply and demand.”
This program is led by the national non-ferrous metal industry integration of production and education community, and it innovatively adopts a “three leaders” unit responsibility system, with the China Aluminum Corporation (playing a leading role in enterprise and technological innovation), the Non-ferrous Metal Industry Talent Center (providing industry guidance and standard construction), and Kunming Metallurgy Vocational University (as the main educational institution) jointly at the helm. The meeting gathered an expert committee composed of academicians, “Great Country Craftsmen,” and industry leaders, along with representatives from over 30 participating schools and several leading enterprises in the industry, to specifically address the “content gap, time gap, and skill gap” that disconnect talent training from industry needs.

It is understood that currently, the non-ferrous metal industry in Yunnan Province is accelerating its transformation toward high-end, intelligent, and green development, with an urgent demand for high-skilled talents; however, the structural contradictions between talent supply and industry demand remain prominent. This cluster training program is a key action that aligns with national strategies, meets industry needs, and fits the realities of Yunnan, aiming to inject strong talent momentum for industry progress and local development.
As a member of the program’s expert committee, Yang Bin, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and president of Kunming University of Science and Technology, introduced that this cluster training program differs from previous scattered training conducted by single institutions or enterprises; instead, it integrates resources from government, schools, industries, and enterprises to construct a collaborative education model of “enterprise-led, industry-guided, school-centered, and expert-supported,” specifically addressing the pain points of disconnect between talent training and industry needs, truly cultivating high-quality skilled talents urgently needed by the industry and applicable to enterprises.
Lei Mianxin, director of the Department of Vocational Education and Adult Education of the Yunnan Provincial Department of Education, stated that all parties will fully draw on the experiences of the first batch of cluster training programs from the Ministry of Education to improve the cooperation mechanism of the “leading enterprises + high-level vocational schools + industry organizations” three-leaders system. Vocational schools need to hold classes in workshops and integrate operations into tasks, creating a “dual-teacher” team to achieve resonance between talent training and industrial upgrading.
Zhang Libo, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and president of Kunming Metallurgy Vocational College, stated that as the hosting unit and a leading unit in the “three leaders,” Kunming Metallurgy Vocational University will take this meeting as an opportunity to closely collaborate with China Aluminum Corporation and the Non-ferrous Metal Industry Talent Center within the framework of the national non-ferrous metal industry integration of production and education community, joining hands with all participating schools, enterprises, industry organizations, and production-education joint bodies to cultivate more high-quality technical skilled talents, artisans, and “Great Country Craftsmen” for the high-quality development of China’s non-ferrous metal industry.
