Vice President Vance emerged as the top choice for the Republican presidential nomination at this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), according to the results of a straw poll released on March 29. Among the more than 1,600 attendees who participated, Vance secured approximately 53% of the vote. Secretary of State Rubio came in second with 35%. CPAC is a significant annual gathering for Republican lawmakers, activists, and presidential hopefuls. This year’s conference was held in Grapevine, Texas, with attendees primarily from the conservative wing of the Republican Party. The conference’s annual straw poll is not a definitive predictor of the eventual nominee. However, this vote reflects the current support leanings among the core supporters of Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) movement. According to PolyBeats monitoring, on the prediction market Polymarket, the probability of Vance being the ultimate winner of the 2028 US presidential election is currently reported at 18%, California Governor Gavin Newsom at 17%, and Secretary of State Rubio at 10%, with these three leading the rankings.
