(MENAFN) Israeli authorities issue only 66 building permits to Palestinians in the occupied West Bank over an 11-year span, while illegal Israeli settlers receive 22,000 permits, as reported Sunday by local media.

Between 2009 and 2020, Palestinians obtain just 66 permits, whereas 22,000 are granted to settlers in the same period, according to Haaretz. “As most of the West Bank is off-limits to Palestinian development, residents are forced to build without permits,” the report notes.

The article highlights frequent demolitions conducted by Israeli authorities since January in the Taawun neighborhood. Located in Area C, the neighborhood “did not receive building permits from the Israeli authorities, despite being far from any settlement or access road,” the report adds.

Al-Taawun is described as “just one example of the accelerating pace of demolitions across the West Bank.” In January alone, the Israeli military demolishes 24 Palestinian structures in Area C for lacking official permits.
