On March 11 local time, the U.S. Embassy in Iraq urged American citizens to leave Iraq, citing risks of attack and kidnapping. A statement from the embassy said, “American citizens and U.S. interests in Iraq are under threat, and Americans face the risk of being kidnapped. U.S. businesses, hotels frequently visited by foreigners, and other facilities, including those associated with the U.S., have been attacked.” Since the U.S. and Israel launched attacks on Iran, leading to ongoing warfare in the Middle East, Iranian and Iraqi militia groups have carried out dozens of missile and drone attacks against U.S. bases, diplomatic facilities, and energy and communication sites within Iraq. Currently, Iraqi airspace is closed, but land border crossings to Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey remain open. (CCTV News)
