By grasping the new characteristics and trends of new industrialization, leading vehicle manufacturer Great Wall Motors invested 3.2 billion yuan to build a new platform in Tianjin, capable of flexibly switching between different vehicle models based on orders. On the 22nd, a brand-new model rolled off this platform. Join the reporter for an exclusive first look.

The vehicle currently slowly moving down the production line is Great Wall Motors’ first model built on the Yuan platform—the WeiPai V9X, a six-seat SUV, which can produce one unit every 84 seconds. This hybrid model has a combined range of 1,300 kilometers and can flexibly meet market demands.

To accelerate the transformation of the automotive industry toward high-end, intelligent, and green development, Tianjin focuses on leading companies like Great Wall and Volkswagen, promoting automakers to quickly introduce new models. Last year, Great Wall Motors invested 3.2 billion yuan to establish the Yuan platform in Tianjin. This platform is the country’s first fully powered intelligent super platform, breaking down engines, batteries, chassis, and other components into 329 standard modules. Based on different orders, it assembles vehicles like building with LEGO blocks, enabling rapid model switching and improving delivery speed. To support the implementation of new platforms, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology also helped companies secure 150 million yuan in ultra-long-term government bonds.

Relying on the Yuan platform, Great Wall Motors will introduce four new models to the Tianjin plant this year. Multiple departments, including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Economic Development Zone, are working together to guide Great Wall in simultaneously establishing supporting enterprises. Mandar Automotive Parts, headquartered in Baoding and a supplier for Great Wall Motors, has built two new factories for optoelectronics and thermal systems next to the Tianjin base, mainly producing core components such as air conditioning assemblies and vehicle lights. The factories have begun trial production this month and will add 1,400 employees, boosting local employment.

This year, Great Wall Motors also plans to establish an intelligent connected vehicle R&D center in Tianjin. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will continue to optimize the industrial ecosystem around the needs of leading enterprises.
