Memory Chip Shortage Will Cause Global Smartphone Market to Shrink 13% in 2026

Market research firm IDC has released its latest forecast. Due to an unprecedented shortage of memory chips, global smartphone shipments are expected to drop to approximately 1.1 billion units in 2026, a 12.9% decrease from 1.26 billion units in the previous year. IDC also predicts that, under cost pressures, the survival space for entry-level models is shrinking rapidly. “The era of cheap smartphones is over.”
