Viewpoint Network News: On March 22, Ernst & Young (EY) released a report stating that by 2025, the EU’s import trade of automobiles and auto parts from China will reach 22 billion euros, an 8% increase year-over-year. This will be the first time it surpasses the EU’s exports to China, which are projected to be 16 billion euros, a 34% decline compared to the same period last year.

According to the report, Germany, as the EU’s main exporter of automobiles to China, will export 13.6 billion euros worth of vehicles to China in 2025, still exceeding its imports from China by 7.4 billion euros, but the gap has significantly narrowed. EY predicts that, based on current trends, by 2026, Germany-China auto trade may see imports and exports roughly balanced.

The report also mentions that although Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW still hold dominant market shares in Germany, Chinese automakers have made significant progress in other European countries. It is expected that market competition will intensify further by 2026.
