On March 23, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Lin Jian, held a routine press conference.

A reporter from AFP asked: U.S. President Trump issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Iran on Saturday, demanding that they reopen the shipping lane through the Strait of Hormuz by tomorrow morning Beijing time, or else destroy Iran’s power facilities. What is China’s comment on this?

Lin Jian stated that the ongoing conflict in the Middle East continues to spill over. If the fighting expands and the situation escalates again, the entire region will fall into an uncontrollable situation.

He emphasized that violence will only lead to a vicious cycle. China strongly urges the parties involved to immediately cease military actions, return to dialogue and negotiations, and not let this war—which should never have started—continue any further.
